ABOUT ABOUT

The Wild West was never any wilder than these rail trips through time!  Trains were prime targets of outlaws after industry began in 1867.  Keep an eye out for even more as your train rolls on down the tracks.
The trips are sponsored by the Old Dominion Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society. The organization is committed to preserving Virginia rail history and to sharing it with the public.  The Special's diesel engine dates to the 1950's and the passenger cars to the 1920's. Riders can choose either climate controlled cars or catch the fabulous views from the open-air cars. (Approximately 45% of our seats are in open-sided cars and therefore subject to weather conditions. Purchase of a ticket DOES NOT GUARANTEE YOU A SEAT IN ONE OF THE ENCLOSED CARS. Seating is on a first-aboard=first choice basis. Reserved seating is not available.)

Restrictions

Your ticket cost includes all applicable taxes and fees.  Ticket purchases are non-refundable and are good for the date and time shown on the ticket.  All seating is general admission on a first-come, first-served basis.  Some seats are in closed-window coach (heated/air conditioned), some are in openable-window coach (heated) and some are in covered open-air cars (not used during North Pole Express Santa Trains).

Please arrive at least 30 minutes before scheduled departure and follow posted signage to understand your options at Dillwyn Station.

All passengers 2 years and older require tickets.  Those aged 2-13 may ride with reduced cost children’s tickets (except on the North Pole Express Santa Trains).   Children under 2 are not assigned a seat and may only occupy one if all other passengers have been seated.

Passengers wishing to switch to a different trip on the same day may do so only at the discretion of the Trainmaster.  And, if accommodated, cannot be boarded until 5 minutes before departure.

Excursions run rain/snow or shine and are rarely cancelled.  Check odcnrhs.org or facebook.com/Old-Dominion-Railroad-Excursions-350385994993123 for updates.  If you are not able to make your scheduled trip, you have the following options:

Cancel 14 days in advance and receive a ticket credit equal to 80% of your payment.  We will gladly hold this on file for 1 year from the originally scheduled date and you can apply it to the cost of future trips.
Standby for a different trip on the same day as originally scheduled.  Unfortunately, no seat availability is guaranteed (noted above).
Turn your unused tickets into a tax-deductible contribution to the valuable work of the Old Dominion Chapter of the NRHS.  You will automatically receive a thank you and record of your donation by email following the originally scheduled excursion (if you have not taken advantage of either option above).

Snacks and souvenirs are available onboard (or, for North Pole Express Santa Trains, at the Station).

To ensure our passengers safety, please observe the following:

Always “Stop, Look & Listen” for train movements
Obey all signs (parking, boarding, riding and while near the operating railroad)
Don’t walk on or between the rails.
Don’t leave children unattended
While onboard, listen to the car hosts and narrator for important information
No smoking, weapons or pets (except documented service dogs)
Please take lots of pictures and ask questions
If we take your picture, we may use it in our future publicity and marketing efforts
