Rail travel in the “Roaring 20’s” was at its most extravagant peak. Both enclosed passenger cars on the Springtime Special date to this era. Babe Ruth, Flappers and swing music were just the opposite of the stodgy Victorian times. Live large and love life as we Ramble through the History of America and Buckingham County like real rail barons.
The trips are sponsored by the Old Dominion Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society. The organization is committed to preserving Virginia rail history and to sharing it with the public. The Special's diesel engine dates to the 1950's and the passenger cars to the 1920's. Riders can choose either climate controlled cars or catch the fabulous views from the open-air cars. (Approximately 45% of our seats are in open-sided cars and therefore subject to weather conditions. Purchase of a ticket DOES NOT GUARANTEE YOU A SEAT IN ONE OF THE ENCLOSED CARS. Seating is on a first-aboard=first choice basis. Reserved seating is not available.)
