You are invited to experience the beauty and thrill of the rails. You can climb aboard the diesel-powered Virginia Springtime Special, and travel through the springtime scenery of some of Buckingham County's most beautiful rolling hills and deep forests.
The trips are sponsored by the Old Dominion Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society. The organization is committed to preserving Virginia rail history and to sharing it with the public. The Special's diesel engine dates to the 1950's and the passenger cars to the 1920's. Riders can choose either climate controlled cars or catch the fabulous views from the open-air cars. (Approximately 45% of our seats are in open-sided cars and therefore subject to weather conditions. Purchase of a ticket DOES NOT GUARANTEE YOU A SEAT IN ONE OF THE ENCLOSED CARS. Seating is on a first-aboard=first choice basis. Reserved seating is not available.)
